About David
David Zwebner has been involved in real estate for over 40 years and has centered much of his work on Ashkelon. David grew up in South Africa and came to discover the connection of Ashkelon with his native South Africa in a serendipitous way. He was doing a degree in Land of Israel Studies and received a call to do his miluim (reserve duty with the IDF). When he finished, he offered to give a ride to a fellow soldier who lived in Ashkelon. When they arrived in Ashkelon, Zwebner had a sense of déjà vu and felt a sense of familiarity with the city. It reminded him of the suburb of Johannesburg where he grew up. And when he got to the Afridar neighborhood, with a street names such as South Africa Blvd, Johannesburg and Kaapstad, he knew there was story there. David wrote a paper on Ashkelon and found so much material, the paper became a book. (The Founding of Modern Ashkelon is available on Amazon).
David sits on the boards of Keren Ashkelon, Begin Center, Yad Ben Zvi, Beit Sefer Ma’aleh and Bible Lands Museum.
